Irukandji Shark & Ray Encounters offers unique aquarium and zoo experiences in Port Stephens, NSW, Australia. This interactive aquarium allows visitors to view, touch, and feed a variety of sharks and rays while staying dry or wading in the shallow lagoons. For a more immersive experience, visitors can upgrade to a wetsuit and swim with the animals, or participate in a private encounter session.
The Zebra Encounter package, priced at $50, includes admission to the aquarium, entry to the lagoon shallows, shark food, animal interaction, and interesting animal talks. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult holding a Zebra Encounter Pass. The encounter experience lasts 20 minutes, while the shallow time is up to the visitor and averages two hours. Only six positions are available, so booking in advance is recommended.
During the encounter, visitors will get to pet and feed endangered sharks while learning about their behaviors and conservation. After the encounter, visitors are free to continue interacting with the animals in the shallow water.
In addition to the Zebra Encounter, Irukandji offers a range of aquarium and zoo tickets, memberships, and gift vouchers for families and individuals. The aquarium hosts events and offers guided tours for large groups. Visitors can also purchase souvenir socks and upgrade to snorkeling experiences.
The aquarium is open daily from 9am-5pm, and last arrival is at 3:40pm for the full experience. It is recommended to book in advance, especially during busy times and school holidays.
